Happy Monday, y’all! I know it’s been a couple weeks, but bear with me as I’ve been laying down some solid foundations in preparation for a new season of growth. I have to tell you I have been feeling AMAZING! Taking the time to work on myself and get laser focused on my goals has been extremely beneficial. I cannot wait to see the fruits of my labor manifest.
In the midst of my solitude, there was a slew of disheartening events that jolted my spirit. The frequent natural disasters coupled with the ever-present racial tension in our nation was quite overwhelming.
Whenever moments like these occur, I try my best to use it as an opportunity to go into deep reflection. More specifically, self reflection, asking myself how I fit into the bigger picture. How can I be of help? Am I positively contributing? Being extremely keen about the words I choose to use so not to offend parties from either side, while still holding steadfast to my core beliefs.
We are living in some unbelievably challenging times. The only resolve I ever come to is that we need more love. So much hatred has been thrust around that society has forgotten what it means to love thy neighbor. It doesn’t help that the leader of the free world has made it common practice to display hatred when given the chance.
I have learned a lot about love from many angles, as a daughter, a sister, a mother, and now wife. With each role, I’ve learned something new. What remains constant is the unconditional love shared. What if we extended that love to a complete stranger? How much better would our society be?
With that said, we cannot control the vast majority of the events that occur around us, but what we can control is ourselves. Like Biggie said, “Spread Love, It’s the Brooklyn Way” except we need it to be the “way” in every part of the land. Praying for our world and all those affected by the tragic recent events.
