This weekend, I took a quick trip to NYC to support Claire at her #ConvosWithClaire event. Claire runs Fashion Bomb Daily, one of the the top 50 influential style blogs, and I am blessed enough to have recently joined the team. I started the year off with a clear vision that I would not work in any field of work unless it was in alignment with my passion. We all know fashion is my passion and what better to be a part of the Fashion Bomb Daily team. Last month, I had the pleasure of running the Black History Month series, which was a phenomenal experience.
I’ve been battling all sorts of sickness since the wedding and let me tell you, it felt SOO good to finally get back to normal living! Most of my girlfriends live in the tri-state area, so whenever I go, I have lots to choose from. This time, I stayed with my bestie Lavinia, who I hadn’t seen since my wedding day. Though we speak often, it was nice to kiki in person and get excited about our entrepreneurial adventures. She even got me to stay an extra day so we could spend a little more time together. No better feeling than sharing all your visions and dreams with someone who is like-minded and believes in you just as much as you believe in yourself.
Before the event on Saturday, the Fashion Bomb crew, went to The Standard Grill for brunch! If you know me, you know I am a sucker for good eats, not to mention brunch! I had their eggs Benedict with smoked salmon which was DIVINE! Typically, it comes with ham, but since I don’t eat pork, they were able to accommodate me. Of course I didn’t stop there. I glanced at the dessert and came across their cinnamon sugar donuts and had to try them; they did not disappoint. It was great to meet other members of the staff in person and get a chance to parlay. From there, Marta took some quick shots of us as we walked over to the venue where the event was being hosted.
#ConvosWithClaire was an amazing event that was moderated by none other than June Ambrose(LOVE HER!). It was a very intimate setting at Nesh NYC where June asked Claire some questions to reveal a little bit from her book, The Bomb Life. The audience was very engaging and though most of the inspiration came by way of June and Claire, some of it also came from the attendees, which was great. Claire dished on some of the challenges that she faced as she built Fashion Bomb and offered salient advice to those looking to start something of their own. June also dropped some gems as she moderated. I remember her saying “look in the mirror and ask yourself, “what makes you so special?” and if you don’t know the answer to that, start there first”. She also advised to stand by who you are meaning don’t let anyone dull your shine. It’s one of those moments where you would have to be there to really grasp what I felt, but all in all, I left feeling more inspired than ever!
This leads to me sharing that my site Shady Society will be debuting very soon. Sometimes my dreams scare me because they can be quite ambitious. I’ve learned that everything is possible if you just keep pushing. Claire talked about the difference between her and other bloggers who were not successful and it was simple, she never quit, everyone else did.
This just reaffirms my decision to take a leap of faith and go after my wildest dreams. I am the only one who can decide whether or not I fail. Believe it or not, we can sometimes be the ones holding ourselves back with all our doubts and fears. I still face that challenge at times; however, I’ve learned to push through regardless otherwise I’ll be heading no where fast, and who wants that?
Right now, the best part of living, is waking up everyday in control of my life. Taking a chance on Moi has been the best gift yet and I know there’s more to come.
