In the past two weeks I have been doing what Charlamagne refers to as “Put the weed in the bag”. I recently just listened to his book on audiobooks where he uses this statement as a metaphor to describe building a strong foundation by stacking up on opportunities and experiences that push you closer to your goal. The kicker is that in doing so you aren’t stacking money, you’re racking up on experiences that will take you to the next level where money will inevitably come. I don’t want to give too much away, but the greatest lesson I learned is that the opportunities that pay more aren’t in the form of money. Though this was something I already knew, it was great it have it reiterated in this way.
I’m a religious listener of Myleik Teele’s podcast where she mentioned listening to his book. I decided to dive in and take shot at it (best decision ever!) I feel like I got handed all the keys to success through listening. Though provocative in many ways Charlamagne stays consistent with his storyline throughout the book as it inclines to the height of his career and offers up insightful advice on creating the life you desire.
I would encourage you all to listen to it in audio form. I honestly don’t think there’s a better way to read it as its narrated in his voice and boy does he know how to tell a good story. I was locked in from beginning to end. I think every black man should read it, as it speaks volumes from the perspective of a black man who’s been there done that.
I also binged watched the Girl Boss series based on Sophia Amuroso’s best selling memoir. Books are usually much better than when translated to visual form. This was certainly true, however, Britt Robertson is one of my favorite actresses and did a phenomenal job playing the role. I’m big on visuals so it was great for me to see certain parts of the book play out on screen. Long story short, I loved being able to take away insightful lessons. As I come across my own struggles along the way, watching this has given me more backbone to weather the storm.
On Myleik’s birthday podcast, she talked about how a lot of her early years prior to her success as an entrepreneur were spent as an avid student. It made me happy to hear because that’s what I’ve been doing all along. I do like to err on the side of caution with this because I always want to make sure I’m also working towards my goals as I build on the knowledge. So I’d say be sure you split your time so that it is also action based.
