Hey y’all! Another week to go forth and conquer those goals; what we put in daily/weekly, turn into months, then soon it’ll be a year before we know it. This weekend I caught up on some much needed rest. Upon my return from Haiti, I delved right into prepping for my sisters “I DO BBQ” themed engagement party. Y’all know how exhausting coming back from a vacation can be, so a sister needed to find some time to bounce back.
Though I engaged in a few activities this past weekend, it was nothing as high strung as hosting a party. I attended the first Masterpiece Conference, which was a spiritual conference that focused on keeping us grounded in the fact that we are God’s masterpiece; there were workshops geared towards this that were extremely insightful.
I particularly loved the sermon. Pastor Kelly, from Mt. Rubidoux church in Calforinia made a poignant point that really stuck with me about our interactions with others. He told a story about how he bumped into someone with a cup full of juice and how the contents that were in the cup not only got on him, but also the person he bumped into. He used this as an analogy to help us understand that we must be careful who we bump into and be sure we are not spreading the mess that’s inside of us onto others and vice versa. I thought that was a really clever way of simplifying how what goes on in our mind and body not only affects us, but all those around us as well, whether it be negative or positive- of course the goal is to always keep it positive!
At any rate, summer is almost over. I’m planning out the next few weeks very strategically so Nemiah can mentally prepare herself for 7th grade (WOAH!).
Her dream of all dreams is to go Harvard, so I’ll be taking her there before school is in session so her vision can be clear. I believe that my job as a parent is to expose her to loads of new experiences so that she can be well rounded and aspire for things that are much greater than herself.
In keeping up with this, we will be attending Myleik’s live podcast in Atlanta together. Myleik is the epitome of black girl magic (if you don’t know her, get familiar!); I don’t think anything can benefit Nemiah more than placing her in the space of powerhouse winners that she can learn from. She’s come to admire the women I look up to as well. I can’t wait to see what her take aways are from what’s sure to be an impactful event. One thing I know for sure is no matter what, I will be her biggest cheerleader cheering her on!
Have a great week!
